Help students learn to master addition and subtraction of numbers up to the hundred thousands!
Jumping Joey’s Number Line Arithmetic Supplement works with the Arithmetic PlaceMat to allow for even more comprehensive math opportunities, and is useful for grades 2-4 or beyond. Learning to add with an algorithm approach (regrouping) can be very confusing for students. This tool works with the Arithmetic PlaceMat to allow the students to visualize problems in space as they work through problems on paper. Using the Supplement with the Arithmetic PlaceMat is very helpful when solving problems because it teaches the “how’s and why’s of math”– letting students benefit from learning experientially, rather than by rote.
How Does the Number Line Arithmetic Supplement work?
The Supplement turns the Number Line approach into an abacus-like system, allowing addition and subtraction to the hundred-thousands. The Supplement teaches how to use Jumping Joey’s Number Line for Addition with Greater Numbers, Column Addition, and Subtraction with Greater Numbers. Students move the place value pieces up and down the Number Line as they make their exchanges while adding and subtracting. This process allows students to see and experience why they need to regroup, and how to do it easily. Comes with colorful place value pieces that help students stay organized and on-track as they work through problems. All materials store in a durable soft plastic case that lays flat for easy storage.
Jumping Joey’s Number Line correlates with many National Council of Teacher of Mathematics (NCTM) Standards to benefit student learning.
